Our society is deeply attached to doing. The standards are set even higher for moms, as we are often expected to do more than most people. Mom entrepreneurs are sometimes judged harshest of all. Everywhere we look, we’re told we need to improve, and that can take its toll. The minimum standard is “super mom” and anything less means there’s something wrong with us and we aren’t doing as much as we should.
We can start to focus so much on reaching goals and taking action steps that we lose sight of how wonderful we already are – that the potential we are striving for is already within us, just waiting to be allowed to come out. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the doing involved in setting goals and making action plans, try these simple steps to access the potential already part of you.
1. Own Your Perfection
Right now you are exactly where you are supposed to be. You are who you are meant to be in this moment. That’s not to say you can’t reach greater heights or that you shouldn’t attempt to. This mindset allows you to cut yourself some slack and appreciate how far you’ve already come. Feeling GOOD now energizes you to do what sounds FUN and make progress from a place of adventure and excitement instead of the hustle and grind mentality where you’re exhausted, but keep going because that’s what you’re supposed to do.
2 . Consciously Choose Potential
The only real way to make a change in your life is to do so in a focused, conscious way. Choose a change that sounds FUN- something you WANT to do- not something you feel like you have to do. You need to commit to a change and act upon it with delight.
3. Focus on Growing
Don’t fall into the self-improvement trap of believing you need to improve because you aren’t good enough (see step #1). Instead of hating where you are, focus on growing your excellence. This switch in mindset makes all the difference to your happiness and the ability to reach your goals.
4. Set Goals
Trusting you are good enough doesn’t need to preclude you from desiring more growth towards your innate potential. It does allow you to do so in a more harmonious way. Set attainable goals for yourself that make you feel inspired rather than defeated. Without growth, we cannot evolve into an even better version of ourselves, and planning helps us direct our intentions.
5. Chose ONE Goal to Work Toward
Once you have a set of goals, chose one to work on first. Attempting to change too much at once often leads to achieving nothing because there’s no focus. Start small and build momentum to carry over into other goals. Single focus, a quantum leap. (<–I may have to get a tattoo of that reminder LOL!)
6. Use Short-Term Goals, Too
While it’s great to have long-term goals you want to achieve, don’t overlook the benefits of short-term goals too. If you focus only on where you want to be in 10 years, it will be hard to keep up the consistent daily effort. Instead, set short-term goals that eventually lead to the achievement of the long-term one. Use these benchmarks to celebrate your success and acknowledge that you are making headway. This is a beautiful way to bolster your energy and give gratitude via celebration! In my experience, 90 days is a lovely amount of time because the next right step is clear and achievable, and it’s easier to adjust as the unexpected happens.
Unleashing your true potential may sound overwhelming at first, but with these simple and doable steps, you can start the journey NOW, if you WANT to! You are perfect exactly as you are, and it is not required for you to do more. You may find that intentionally choosing to learn and grow makes for a richer life. Setting goals from a place of self-love and enjoying the adventure of growing your excellence is a brilliant mindset that makes all the difference! Choosing one goal at a time eliminates overwhelm and empowers you to go further faster because you can focus. Long-term goals are wonderful for ensuring you’re in alignment with your greatest ambitions, but short-term goals help focus on how to take action now. I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about these six steps to help you unleash your potential!
